How do you get coffee stains out of clothes ?

It can happen to anyone. You were drinking coffee at work or having breakfast, and somehow you managed to spill it all over your shirt. Not to worry, there are many ways to remove coffee stains from your favorite piece of clothing. You could say that coffee stains go into two categories, meaning fresh coffee stains and the already dry ones. There are different ways to deal with them. And some of them will work in both cases.

Fresh coffee stains
STEP 1: If you just spilled your coffee on a shirt or a rug, wet it with a tissue or a paper towel. This is important for easier removal of the stains in the second step. The second step is to run the stain under cold water for about 5 minutes. Make sure the water is cold because hot water will make the stain more persistent. While you are cleaning it with cold water, you can rub it to get the coffee out of the fabric. You can repeat this again to remove fresh stains.
If you spilled coffee over your carpet or sofa, spill some cold water over the stain and rub gently. Use a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda and use a brush to rub the stain. Rinse the mixture off with cold water and let it dry. If the stain persists, try some more methods that we will share in a bit.

STEP 2: If after step 1, the stain persists, use some laundry detergent on the wet fabric. Leave it to work for a few minutes and rinse it with cold water (this will also work on drier stains).
STEP 3: (Optional)
If after step 1 or 2, the stain still persists, you can try using a specialized coffee stain remover or vinegar. If you use vinegar or a specialized cleaner, you have to test it on an inner side of the fabric to see if it causes discoloration.
Mix half of the powdered detergent with some white vinegar and apply it to the stain. You can use a small brush (even an old toothbrush) to scrub it. Rinse it well. This solution might also work on dry coffee stains.

Dry coffee stains
For dry coffee stains, you can apply all the methods mentioned above (except step 1), but few others might work.

-Applying egg yolk
A tested solution for dry coffee stains is egg yolk. Apply it to the stain and let it dry. After it dries, you rinse it with hot water.
– Vinegar and baking soda, alcohol, and water
You can also use a combination of baking soda and white vinegar or a mixture of medicinal alcohol and water (equal parts). Apply to the stain, let it work for a few minutes and rinse.

– Toothpaste or shaving cream
If you don’t have any vinegar or alcohol you can always try with toothpaste or shaving cream. Apply it on the stain and let it work for a few minutes, rinse with water.

If you used any of these tips for fresh or dry coffee stains, you can always put the piece of clothing in the washing machine after, to give it an extra wash, which can help with finally removing the stain.
